Enjoy a tour of the rich history, historic homes and attractions of Spokane. Learn about the Native Americans that first discovered this area and where the city began as we travel along the Spokane River, view the Spokane Falls and the grounds of the former Expo ’74 site, now Riverfront Park. Tour inside the majestic Saint John’s Cathedral, said to be one of the most beautiful cathedrals in the Pacific Northwest. Marvel at the stain glass windows, wood carvings and design. Discover Manito Park while strolling through the formal French Renaissance gardens, Perennial Gardens, Rose Gardens, authentic Japanese Gardens, and flower-filled Conservatory. Trip Advisor’s Travelers Choice Awards rated Manito Park “One of the Top 25 Parks in the US”. See the historic area of Browne’s Addition where many of the old mansions, built in the late 1800’s, have been restored to their original splendor. Stop at Bing Crosby’s childhood home to see the largest public collection of Crosby’s memorabilia in the US.

Jet Boating on the Snake River
in Hell’s Canyon

Travel 2.5 hours south of Spokane to Hell’s Canyon, the deepest gorge in North America. Along the way, travel see rich farm country and learn about the Great Flood that carved this area at the end of the last Ice Age. Board your jet boat for a narrated ride on the Snake River. See ancient petyroglyps left by the native Americans who lived in the canyon hundreds of years ago. Stop at historic Dug Bar, where Chief Joseph led his people from Oregon to Idaho, per orders of the U.S. Army. There’s also a good view of the layers of basalt with interesting rock formations made by the lava floods that covered eastern Washington millions of years ago. Look for great blue heron, ducks, deer and big horn sheep. The boat goes right over the top of rapids often passing rafters coming down the river. Along the way, stop for lunch at Garden Creek Ranch and take a stroll of the grounds or go for a swim. The trip is 6 hours/112 miles round trip. Return to Spokane in the evening.

Historic Homes and High Tea

Experience life back in the late 1800’s during Spokane’s “Age of Elegance” as we travel through Historic Browne’s Addition where the rich came to build their homes. Learn how they made their fortunes and some fun stories about what went on back then. Stop and tour the historic Roberts Mansion, built in 1889, in the Victorian Queen Anne style. The home has been brought back to its’ original splendor and is now a bed and breakfast. Next to the Brambleberry Cottage, located in an historic home, feel the nostalgia of another era as you sit down to formal tea service on resplendent china, lavish trays of assorted finger sandwiches, scones, clotted cream, preserves, salad, and confections. Teas from all over the world will be offered and are sure to please any tea connoisseur. After tea, view some more stunning mansions overlooking downtown before returning to the hotel.

Downtown Spokane Historic Walking Tour

Learn about the Native Americans, early fur traders and pioneers who settled along the Spokane River. See the former Expo’ 74 site, now Riverfront Park and view the Spokane Falls. Take the Sculpture Walk through the park to see a wide variety of commissioned art by local artists, including the largest Red Radio Flyer in the World. As you walk through downtown, your guide will tell you about the architects and point out ornate details on the buildings they created after the Great Fire of originally built for and how they have been repurposed today. Walk through the spectacular Historic Davenport Hotel, built in 1914 where your guide will tell its’ story and how it was almost torn down. Listen to some interesting and colorful stories about Spokane in the late 1800’s, when it was a wild town catering to the miners from the nearby Silver Valley.

The Spectacular Laser Light Show on the Spillway of Grand Coulee Dam

Travel through Eastern Washington’s rich farm country and along the way learn about the Cataclysmic Ice Age Flood that sculpted the landscape. Grand Coulee Dam, one of the largest concrete structures in the world, sits astride the Columbia River; the second largest river in the United States. See the Laser Light Show that tells the story of the river and is projected on the spillway as water pours down the face of the dam and acts as the screen. The show is narrated and accompanied by music and you’ll be seated in bleacher seats. There is time to explore the Visitor Center at the Dam. Dinner is hosted in Grand Coulee, before the show.

An Evening of Wine Tasting in Historic Downtown Spokane

Join your local guide for an evening of tasting award-winning wines at boutique wineries and tasting rooms, as we walk through downtown. First stop is the Nectar Tasting Room , where a Washington State winery is selected each month as their feature wine. Learn about the Washington Wine Industry here as you taste some wine. No host food is also available here. Next to Terra Blanca Winery, located in the ornate, historic Chronicle Building, which once housed the evening newspaper. Their wines come from the famed Red Mountain AVA Region in SE Washington and they offer acclaimed reds, whites and dessert wines. Learn about the history of this classic building and look up at the “printing devils” adorning the roof top. Last stop is Cougar Crest Estate Winery, An “Estate Grown” designation is closely regulated, their wines are made from grapes grown in their own vineyards and fermented, aged and bottled at their family winery. Wine Spectator has rated many of their releases 90+. In-between the wineries, your guide will tell interesting and colorful stories about Spokane in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s and point out ornate architecture on the buildings that rose after the Great Fire of 1889.

Meet your local guide and start at Mountain Lakes Brewing Co. where they share their passion for Porters, Pales and Lagers. The owners will walk you through their 3 barrel brewing system while tasting their brews, snacks available. As we are walking to our next stop, take a short tour of the Historic Davenport Hotel, built in 1914 and refurbished to it’s glorious spendor. Now to Whistle Punk Brewing, a father, son team who are passionate about creating new beers for you to enjoy, food also available here. Last stop is Black Label Brewing Company, located in the Saranac Commons. They take the craft of brewing beer to the next level by producing as many ingredients in our beers as possible. Taste some of their award winning creations. Also tour the Saranac Commons, fashioned after Melrose Market in Seattle, converting an old garage to a public market, don’t miss the glass bottle art overhead and the heart-warming story behind it. Hungry? Grab a bite at the Bisquit Wizard or Saranac Restaurant and eat it at the brewery.

The Silver Valley and Historic Wallace

Get a realistic glimpse of the old mining days on the way to the world’s richest Silver Mining District. Stop at Cataldo Mission, the oldest building in the State of Idaho, built by the Coeur d’Alene Indian Tribe and Jesuit Missionaries in 1853. Then to Wallace, the Silver Capital of the World. Ride the trolley up to the Sierra Silver Mine where you’ll put on your hard hat, go into the mine, see the veins of ore and learn how the miners worked. Lunch is in a historic downtown restaurant. After lunch, tour the Oasis Rooms Bordello Museum, an actual old bordello that closed its’ doors in 1987. Everything was left intact for you to see. There’s time to look through the silver shops before returning to Spokane.

An Afternoon of Wine Tasting

Travel to Latah Creek Wine Cellars and Gift Shop. Heralded by Wine Spectator as one of the “Top Merlot’s in Washington State”, taste their merlot, huckleberry wine and other award winning wines. Tour the production area and learn the process of making wine. This family owned winery also boasts a great gift shop, with something for every wine lover and great local products to take home. Next to Arbor Crest Wine Cellars, perched 450 feet above the Spokane River. Built by inventor Royal Riblet in 1924, the grounds have some of Riblet’s unique inventions, a 16×16 foot checkerboard a small vineyard and the mansion. Taste their wines and tour the grounds learning some interesting stories about the inventor Royal Riblet. This is one of the “must sees” in Spokane.
